A GHOSTLY lady has been reported to lure travellers to their deaths at the Black Pool of Cefn, near Merthyr. Enchanted by her beauty, they would follow her into the pool, where she would chuckle maliciously as they struggled for their lives in the cold black water.

IN 1737, a champion Welsh runner was so intent on beating an Englishman in a race that he died from exhaustion soon after winning. It is said the ghost can still be seen running across the hills near Mountain Ash at midnight.

A ROAD between Llandaff and Cardiff was frequented on moonlit nights by a hideous apparition of a “frog woman”. The local rumour is that she was the unfortunate deformed daughter of a high family secreted out of sight. She was described as moving like a frog and “her croak was unmistakable”. She died after falling into the River Taff but for years afterwards her spirit could be heard croaking and screaming for help to get out of the dark waters.

A GHOSTLY coach and horses has been seen travelling up Cowbridge Road East to the gates of Cardiff Castle as recently as the 1950s.

A PIRATE haunts the spot where he suffered a slow and horrible execution at the base of the cliffs below St Donats Castle in the Vale of Glamorgan, after being buried up to his neck to await drowning by the incoming tide. He can still occasionally be heard rattling his cutlass.

A FARMER was returning home from Cowbridge market one evening when his horse stopped near his home to let a funeral procession pass. As the mourners began to file past, he suddenly recognised his own wife dressed in widow’s weeds, supported in grief by his eldest son, just behind the coffin. The procession passed by and then vanished. A few weeks later the man developed a serious illness and warned his family to expect the worst, describing to them his eerie experience. He died just three days later.

A POLTERGEIST once haunted the family of Duffryn Farm. As well as throwing stones, it also bullied the family’s young son into carrying out acts of mischief and destruction, like letting the cattle out of their sheds and burning haystacks. If the boy dared to disobey, he was punished severely – on one occasion he was thrown over the house and landed in the branches of an oak tree.

A GWRACH y Rhibyn – a monstrous Welsh spirit in the shape of a hideous woman – has been seen rising from the moat of Caerphilly Castle with droplets of water dripping from her wings, talons and long hair. Each time she rose, she would wring her hands and moan or let out a long drawn out wail that was terrible to hear before flying to the castle to take refuge within its walls.

Living TV has finally released the rights to Most Haunted back to Karl Beattie and Antix Productions. This means Karl could now take the show to another TV station.

The statement from Living TV said: “We have decided not to recommission Most Haunted and will be giving Antix Productions the right to take it to another channel if they wish,” Sky Living said. “We would like to thank Yvette Fielding and Karl Beattie for all of their hard work and commitment over the years.”

The statement continued: “Like every commercial TV channel, Sky Living is constantly developing new ideas. We recognise our customers’ appetite for paranormal programming and have recently aired a series about popular psychic Sally Morgan and original scripted drama Bedlam, which proved to be the channel’s most successful commissioned series in its history.

“As well as paranormal, the channel will build on other successful genres, from scripted comedy to real-life relationships, which we know our customers also enjoy.”

The news was posted on Karl Beattie’s Facebook and in the Sun Newspaper.

Karl Beattie posted on his Facebook on 12th August 2011

Hi Guys Just wanted to give you the official news. SkyLiving has decided not to re-commission MH which is sad news, however, we have been given our rights back, so we can go to other broadcasters with it. I think that a new home and better investigation techniques will move MH into the next phase making it bigger and better than ever. We are very excited about MH’s future, so onwards and upwards my paranormal friends. xx

The Sun 13th August

GHOST-busting show Most Haunted has been axed by Sky Living – a year after Yvette Fielding quit.

The channel will return the programme rights to production company Antix, run by Yvette, 42, and husband Karl Beattie.

A spokesman said Sky Living will focus on other paranormal TV, including psychic Sally Morgan’s show and drama Bedlam.

ZOMBIES, witches, ghosts, and UFOs — Dyfed-Powys Police have received some very unconventional call-outs over the past five years.

Local officers have received a number of reports on the supernatural which are now available to the public after a Freedom of Information Act request.

The records reveal 14 UFO sightings, 26 reports of ghosts, 11 of witches and two of zombies and vampires respectively.

In April 2009 a caller reported a witch had been to their house and put salt around their bed.

In the same year, police received a “report of malicious communication; rumours that an individual’s mother is a witch”.

Another file shows someone reported that they had been force-fed a fur-ball during a witchcraft ritual.

And a drunk man in Llanelli told police that he believed a gang of witches wanted to sacrifice him.

There were also three entries in 2007 from a person the police believed to have a mental illness, who claimed her mother was a “black witch”.

Police have received three calls concerning zombies.

One was a phone call made by someone making strange noises and saying “zombie” down the line.

The other two were false alarms: a man acting suspiciously wearing a zombie mask, and someone dressed as a zombie as part of a film shoot.

While there have been no werewolf sightings, there have been numerous reports of strange goings on in the sky.

In 2004 at Whitemill, near Carmarthen, police received a call which said: “Just seen something strange in the sky. It is like a streak and it is just still. Could be UFO”

Another, in 2009, recounted a “report of a large orange sphere in the sky, looks like a hot air balloon. Later clarified to be Chinese lanterns.”

In Newcastle Emlyn there was another report of three lights in a triangle, and big round orange lights with white around them “thought to be a UFO”.

In all incidents police said there was no evidence of supernatural activity, but that does not mean all are explained.

Phil Hoyle of Shrewsbury’s UFO Research and Investigation Unit said the statistics were a fraction of sightings, many of which go unreported or are hard to classify. “The police go through a process of elimination to try to classify it, but people often can’t describe what they have seen,” he said.

PLANS to restore a Tudor landmark have received a boost after two heritage groups offered to support a campaign to save Wymering Manor.

Both English Heritage and the Heritage Lottery Fund have said they believe the building’s refurbishment should be a priority for the city.

English Heritage has agreed to add the deteriorating historic landmark to its ‘at risk’ list, and confirm it as its ‘number one priority’ Portsmouth building.

And representatives from the Heritage Lottery Fund have told Portsmouth North MP Penny Mordaunt plans she has developed with local campaigners would be something they could look to fund.

Ms Mordaunt said: ‘They were enthusiastic. It means the ball’s really in ours and Portsmouth City Council’s court now. We have been told there’s an 80 per cent acceptance rate for schemes like ours.’

The manor, in Old Wymering Road, was built in 1581, and last used in 2006, when it was a youth hostel.

It has repeatedly been offered for sale by the council, but has failed toeoey reach its £350,000 minimum price – in part because of woodworm and water damage.

But Ms Mordaunt and local conservationists believe it could be turned into community centre, with its ground floor used for events and room hire. Under the plans, its upper floors would become a boutique hotel.

And three times a year, the house could play on its reputation as ‘the most haunted house in Britain’ by opening for ghost hunts and tours.

Ms Mordaunt said: ‘It wouldn’t be cheap, but we believe it would bring in money. We would be looking for approximately £750,000 from Heritage Lottery, and we’d use money to chase other funding, too. The application process would take 18 months, and I am sure if the council can sell the building before then it will, but at worst this is a very good plan B.’

Tom Southall, the council’s head of property, said: ‘Wymering Manor is important to Portsmouth’s heritage and we’ll do whatever we can to preserve it. The options available are limited, but we’re looking again at options that will help prevent deterioration.’

A new ride at one of the country’s biggest theme parks has been moved after fears that it had disturbed an ancient burial ground, prompting paranormal activity.

Workers creating the water ride at Thorpe Park in Surrey for the new season said they started noticing ghostly sightings nearby, including what appeared to be a headless monk.

There were reports of objects being moved, workers feeling like someone was watching over their shoulders and sudden cold feelings being experienced.

A paranormal detection agency was called in to carry out tests and found that an ancient burial ground or settlement could have been disturbed.

Managers at the park decided to relocate the ride to another area of the park and also called in a forensic team to carry out further investigations.

The 64ft-tall water ride, Storm Surge, was originally planned for an area known as Monk’s Walk, an old footpath that has linked the ruins of nearby Chertsey Abbey to Thorpe Church since AD666.

The ride’s foundations would have been over 15 metres deep in an area of the park where stone coffins have previously been excavated.

Mike Vallis, divisional director of Thorpe Park, said: “It became apparent that something strange was going on when teams started clearing Storm Surge’s initial site.

“Staff reports of eerie goings-on shot up and the only physical change in the park, at that time, was the beginning of ground preparation work for the new ride.

“As employees were getting freaked out, we decided to call on an expert to see whether there was anything to report but had no idea of the dramatic effects.”

Jim Arnold, of South West London Paranormal, said: “We carry out these kinds of investigations quite regularly, with medium to weak results being reported on a weekly basis.

“Thorpe Park, however, was more striking as results were picked up immediately, with orbs, ghostly images in photography and ouija reaction results being strongest around the site where they were proposing to build Storm Surge.

“The results were so strong, we felt the only explanation could be that an ancient burial ground or settlement was being disturbed, prompting the extra paranormal activity.”

Forensic geophysicist Peter Masters, of Cranfield University, has since been called in to analyse the site, using deep ground radar.

He said: “From the preliminary investigations, we have picked up signatures similar to that of a burial ground – possibly ancient.

“Although this could simply be an old building, with Thorpe Park’s history, the investigation is definitely worth continuing.”

A STUDENT is looking to follow up a piece of paranormal research started more than 120 years ago.

Rebecca Smith, a PHD psychology student at Coventry University, wants to find out if modern experiences of haunting are anything like those described in the census of hallucinations – a 19th century study that featured some 1,700 paranormal experiences.

The 28-year-old has set up a website for people to share their own spooky stories and help her replicate the old study.

Rebecca, who first came to Coventry in 2006 to start a masters degree in the psychology of exceptional human experiences, said: “I am expecting to find that many of these experiences occur while the person having the experiences is in bed, either before going to sleep or after waking up in the morning.

“I am also expecting that due to advances in technology, such as the invention of the telephone and the speed which we can now travel, there may be very few, if any, crisis apparitions where friends and family are visited just before the death of someone close to them.

Ever wanted to conduct your own paranormal investigations?
Then make sure you get off to the best possible start and join respected paranormal investigator, author and columnist PHIL WHYMAN on an investigator workshop. With over 24 years experience investigating the paranormal, Phil Whyman will show you the right way to do just about everything as far
as investigating the paranormal is concerned.
***Strictly Limited Places***

Join TV’s ‘Most Haunted’ paranormal expert, author, columnist and Dead Haunted company director PHIL WHYMAN on the first date of his Paranormal Investigator Workshop, taking place at Dead Haunted’s EXCLUSIVE venue LANGLEY PRIORY in Leicestershire.
The Workshop
Investigating the paranormal, hauntings and ghosts has never been more popular than it is at the moment, but did you know there is essentially a right and wrong way to do it?
During this intense, practical workshop Phil Whyman will guide you through the same techniques and methods he has employed on countless paranormal investigations over the years that he has been investigating, calling on the vast experience and knowledge he has collected during this time. Learn things such as how to approach locations regarding permission to investigate them; how to use equipment and theories for their usage (including the Ouija board); taking a look at famous paranormal cases; avoiding common problems encountered on an investigation and more…

Topics covered will include:
Approaching potential investigation locations
Witness interviews & questions.
Investigation equipment usage & theories.
Conducting a safe paranormal investigation.
Exploring investigation experiments.
Documenting your investigations.
Common investigation pitfalls.
DO’s & DONT’s of investigating.
Analysis of famous paranormal cases.

Two workshop options
There will be two slightly different workshop options available to anyone wanting to attend:

Option One: WORKSHOP ONLY
Option one will be just the workshop sessions only.

Option Two: WORKSHOP & INVESTIGATION
Option two will consist of the workshop followed by an investigation, to put into practice methods and theories that you will have learned from the workshop itself. Use of investigation equipment will be provided, as well as notepads & pens to document your own findings.

The Venue: LANGLEY PRIORY, Leicestershire
Founded by William Pantulf in AD 1154, Langley Priory – which was of the Benedictine order – remained an important part of the local area, until Henry VIII’s Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1536.
As with so many buildings of this type during the Dissolution, the original structure that was Langley Priory was torn down. The two wings of the present house were built in 1570 by re-using the Norman stone from the ruined Castle at Donington, itself said to be a very haunted location. Further building work saw the middle section linking the two wings being built in 1690, with a Victorian annexe being added to the North Wing in 1888.

There is no doubting that Langley Priory is a beautiful building, and was described in the 1840′s as “one of the finest manorial type houses in Leicestershire”. The house is home to a fine collection of sixteenth century tapestries and some beautiful medieval stained glass.

Langley Priory is a Grade II* listed building, and remains a private family home.

The Investigation
Langley Priory has many paranormal secrets to uncover, and during a recent Dead Haunted investigation did not let us down.
The Buried Man
Langley Priory has seen many deaths over the years, and indeed there are countless bodies buried just beyond its welcoming doors; many of them would have been nuns who very often lived their whole lives here.
During recent works outside in the grounds the body of a male was accidentally excavated. He was reburied in the garden, and you can see his marker to this day.
Nobody is sure who this is, but has disturbing him from his slumber caused any paranormal activity? We’ll find out during our visit.
The Ancient Disused Wing
One particularly spooky and chilling area of Langley Priory is an ancient and disused wing, which we will have access too during our investigation; it is very much in the same condition as it was hundreds of years ago…who knows what or who still resides within its walls?

The Attic
Lurking within the upper recesses of Langley Priory are the attic rooms. These rooms alone are enough to send a shiver down the spine, and that is during the daytime. At night and in the darkness what strange and mysterious things will come out to play?
The Cellar
During our events we have seen many cellars. They are often a hive of paranormal activity, and often that activity can be frightening (Peterborough Museum springs to mind here!)…and Langley Priory has one too. This is one area we are all looking forward to conducting our vigils and experiments.
Other Reported Incidents
Light anomalies
Cold spots.
Feelings of being watched.
Your Workshop Will Consist Of:
A practical workshop session with Phil Whyman, covering all aspects of the modern day paranormal investigation including the methods and techniques used by Phil himself.
A paranormal investigation of Langley Priory after the workshop ends, including use of paranormal investigation equipment.
Notepads & pens for documenting your own experiences.
Certificate of Attendance signed by Phil Whyman on completion of the workshop / investigation.

Refreshments and snacks will be provided throughout the workshop / investigation.
